TRAVELLING WITH MY DOG TO BRAZIL

I want to travel with my dog to Brazil at the end of this year. The trip will take one month. What are the documents that I need in Sweden? Do I need any documents in Brazil when we return to Sweden? She already traveled to Brazil before when we were living in Spain, so she has the rabies vaccine document, every year she renews this vaccine.
Thank you.
Best Regards,

  • Hello Ligia!

Thank you for contacting us. We do not not know what Brazil requieres for the travel there, we can only tell you what is needed upon re-entering Sweden.

These are the rules for bringing a dog or a cat to Sweden from a country outside of the EU where the rabies situation is not under control:
    • The animal must be ID-marked.
    • The animal must have a valid vaccination against rabies.
    • The animal must have an approved level of antibodies against rabies. The blood sample must be taken at least 30 days after the rabies vaccination and at least three months before travelling.
    • The animal must have a veterinary certificate on form E9.207 (issued by an official veterinarian) or an EU passport.
    • The animal must have a pet owner’s declaration.
    • The animal must be reported for control at an EU Point of Entry.
These rules apply when up to five dogs, cats or ferrets are travelling to Sweden with their owner or within five days of the owner. They also apply for animals moving to Sweden with their owner. You can read more about the rules for animals traveling from a country where the rabies situation is not under control here.

An official veterinarian is a Government veterinarian who has the right to issue export certificates. If the country has no official veterinarians, you may instead let an ordinary veterinarian issue the certificate and then have it stamped by the central veterinary authority. Please contact the authority in the country of export well before departure and ask for information about how to do this.

If the animal travels without the owner
There are other rules that apply for animals who travel with the purpose of being sold or brought to a new owner. These rules also apply if the owner travel with more than five dogs or if the animal must travel more than five days before or after its owner. These animals must comply with the rules for trade animals. You can read more about the rules for trade animals at our website.
From some countries it is not possible for an animal to travel without its owner. Please make sure that your country is a country with trade permit. These countries are listed at our website.
