Machine gets hot

Hello, my new Ankarsrum gets quite hot during kneading bread. I don’t go past speed 3 and haven’t exceeded the 12 min timer. Today, the base of the bowl and the motor base are hot to the touch. Is this expected? My expectation/understanding when I bought this was the higher watts can knead bread dough better than other lower-watt stand mixers on the market. Thanks!

  • Hi Ashley,

this does not sound normal. I'd ask you to either contact your retailer or your local Ankarsrum distributor.

reach out to your local distributor and they will let you know how to proceed with this, see link below.

  • If not "hot," should we still expect the base to get warm during use?

  • Hi Ryan,

depends on how long you run it, but generally it should not build up so much heat that it affects the dough.

  • Thanks Johan; I'm not worried about the dough but about the machine. Should I expect the base get very warm during normal use? Is there an actual number for maximum time in a single knead? I was making a single recipe, probably 12-14 minutes, but with some on and off to scrape, so that didn't seem excessive, but the base got very warm nevertheless.

  • Hi,

12-14 minutes of kneading should not build up enough heat to make noticeable difference in temperature in my opinion. We do not have a set maximum running time, but you should generally never have to run it for longer than 15-20 minutes for some doughs, or 30 minutes when making ice cream. It sounds like something is wrong with your mixer. I'd suggest you reach out to your distributor to get the mixer looked at.
