How do I clean the knobs in the front of the machine?

It looks like the timer and speed knobs have dirt that've stuck in the gap between the knob and the front plate, how do I clean the knobs?

Hello, the knobs are supposed to be cleaned with a rag and some water. If theres dirt behind the knob, it's possible pull out the knobs and clean behind them.
