Why are duel matches so biased?

Recently, I started playing Duels. I noticed how I got like top or elite players as my opponent while being myself a starter. How can I hope to keep up or compete?

We do not have the proper matchmaking enabled right now. We are working on re-working career though so it will be a better experience.
