Playing across levels with others

I used to be able to play the competitive games with my other family members and the public regardless of which levels we were on. For example, we could all enter a new game for Distance Battles and we would be there together with 7 other people.
Now, it appears we cant do that and it has killed everyone's interest.

Are we missing something?
All we want to do, is for three of us, two of us are gold and one is silver, is to play battles in public with other people.

Is this now possible? If not, why not?

  • That is not possible since we have enabled Matchmaking in Competitive. I would recommend perhaps playing in a Private lobby under Play with Friends if you wish to play with each other across divisions.
