  • They pay Google for using the Google Maps data every time someone plays a game. Google changed their pricing in the past (×14 more expensive at once) which destroyed any ability to keep a game like GeoGuessr free. The app was still not reflecting the changes that were made to the regular website in the past so they did it now.
