Not only can I not send friend requests, we can't find each other and send requests. We have played matches versus each other but when we search each other's names we can't find each other. Also, the search process is made much harder because people have posted several thousand word long usernames.
Are you still having this problem? I tried searching for the users in your post and could find both of them. A tip if you're searching with multiple terms is to enclose the terms with quotation marks. That way only the exact matches for the entire search string is returned.

Me and 2 other friends we have tried today like 2 hours ago and none of us got any friendship notification. So far it seems this feature is very buggy accordingly to several comments regarding this subject...
1. People can't find each other - when searching try to enclose the name in quotations "player name" for a more effective search.
2. People do find each other and send a friend request but it does not show up/nothing happens when accepting it - as gillian suggested, try to log in and out, we'll investigate but that might help in the mean time.

I checked your user and I can see that you've sent a friend request, checking that persons account I can see a pending friend request from you if I scroll down to the bottom on the start page.
I know it's a bit hidden now that we've added more content to the start page, we're working on moving events to the top bar instead.

Hi I don't see an invite button anywhere on the start page. When I click on my activities I can see a tab called invited but only my pending request shows up and not the request my friend sent to me.
Hi, me and my partner are unable to find each other my name is James Ringland and hers is Lauren Allison Bartlett we've tried using the quotation marks but still no luck, we can only play together by sending a challenge link and can not directly challenge each other through the site any help is appreciated
There is a workaround for this problem. You can manually send an invite from the profile page of your friend or vice-versa. Go in your activities https://geoguessr.com/me/activities and look an activity that says "your friend name" played a challenge on "map name" and got xxxxx points. Click the name to access to the profile and you'll find a "add friend" button. Just click it and your friend will receive it.
The workaround would be fine if we could access each others profiles, but like I said we don't show up on each others search functions so have no way of finding each other to do that

Did you try to search for her name? I actually don't think that is searchable, you need to search for the nick name, but still there can be many similar names and hard to find the right one..
Hi Angie, If you go to 'My activities' in the menu and then klick the 'Invitations' button you should see all pending invitations. (We know that this is a bit tricky to figure out so we're re-doing invitations/notifications)

Thank you for your asistance. We found a way to resolve our problem. We couldn’t find each other by name but my girfriend found a customized map I have done and we could eventuallly add each other 😀 .

Go to the start page and scroll down a bit, there you should see a button called 'Invites', click that and the invites should show up there.

If you go to https://www.geoguessr.com/me/activities or click on 'My activities' in the menu you should see friend invites and be able to accept them.
(There's also a small bell icon in the top bar that turns purple when something new has happened, if you click that you can accept/decline invites)
I had a look at you sisters account and could see that your invite was there, let me know if it still doesn't work
