Change In Scoring Position

The original Geoguessr scored you at the location made your guess. This new version scores from your start point. This seems absurd when you quite often have to move a long way to ascertain your correct location.
Plus the inability to adjust the pointer position doesn't make sense.
I appreciate you may be trying to make things more "challenging"; but the game as it stood originally was challenging enough without changing things just for the sake of change.

  • Hey Roger. About the scoring and positioning, we'll have another look. Perhaps that part of the game should be optional, e.g. a custom game setting. Regardless, it needs to be clear to players how the scoring works. About the pointer, this is something that has received a fair amount of critique, thus something that's likely going to change and get pushed out during the beta phase.

Thanks for taking the time to try the beta, and keep the feedback coming.

  • I dont care for the Correct Location vs. the Current Location at all, not fun anymore to just guess, and when you finally do guess, its 16000 miles away from where you think it is. I bet you guys are losing traffic over this, and I dont think it will come back until the scoring goes back to Current location.

  • Hi Charlie

Thank you for your feedback! Perhaps I misunderstood you but the location that you're guessing on is the start location of the round where you are initially dropped (as it was in the old version). If I didn't understand you correctly could you please elaborate your feedback a bit more?

    Kind regards

  • No you understood ok. The start location of the round is HARD! It used to be the location where you moved to was the correct one. Put it back how it was.....I dont like the start location of the round....does that make sense?

  • Hi Charlie

I think I understand what you mean. We had it the way you're describing for a brief period of time in the old version. The issue with this was that it allowed you to, in a sense, "create your own location", by walking around until you found a location that you could safely recognize. This in turn created problems during challenges and similar which is based on comparing your error-distance/score to other players (because everybody then could use different locations).
Hoping that this makes sense to why it works the way it does now?

    Kind regards
    Anton
